Winner of The Cuthbert Award 2023
The Cuthbert Award is a new award that The Norfolk Boat introduced this year in recognition of the Cuthbert family’s contribution to the charity since it was founded by Andrew Cuthbert MBE in 1982. It is awarded to the Norfolk Boat sponsored sailor who was considered by their skipper, crew or staff to have gone ‘above and beyond’ during their sail training voyage.

Chelsey Church, 17, from Burnham Market came out on top after she was nominated by her skipper, Charlotte Hathaway of Excelsior who spotted Chelsey’s qualities when they sailed together back in July :
“Chelsey was always one of the first to volunteer with sail changes at sea and repairs in port. On the return journey, when we had two days of rough weather and everyone was seasick, she still appeared on deck to help the other watches, either taking the helm when people needed a break or making cups of tea or bringing snacks.”

“We are thrilled to award this to Chelsey who has shown such team spirit and resilience. Learning to sail is just a small part of what these young people experience when they set off on these voyages, they often discover strengths they never knew they had.”
Anthony Hunt, The Norfolk Boat chairman
