A step by step guide to getting funding

Step 1

Either: You can either contact us first giving your name, address, telephone number, your age, when you would like to sail and how much you can afford. We will give you information about the sailing organisations or you can visit our web page for details of the boats we use.

Or: Contact the sailing organisation of your choice (remember they have to be members of ASTO), check the availability of berths and the cost of the voyage. Book direct with them and explain that you are applying to The Norfolk Boat for financial help.

Step 2

Get in touch to discuss the level of funding you need from us and how much you will raise yourself. Once the bursary has been agreed you will need to complete and return to us a funding application form and include the Norfolk Boat reference number we will give you.

You will need to ask a teacher, youth leader or responsible adult, other than your parent or guardian, who knows you to endorse your application.

Step 3

When we receive your form, we will send you confirmation of the bursary with a copy to the sailing organisation.

Correspondence regarding the voyage should be sent direct to the sailing organisation; correspondence regarding the Norfolk Boat bursary should be sent to us and should always include the Norfolk Boat reference number.

Step 4 – have a great voyage!

When you return, you will need to send us a report of your voyage giving specific details of how the experience has positively impacted your life.

Please also send us some photos of your voyage, with appropriate consent to use on social media and newsletters.  The photos should NOT be included in the body of the report but sent in a separate format please.
