The Sailing Adventure
A life changing experience
Sailing is a genuinely life changing experience. The voyages help people to discover their potential through the adventure of sail training. You don’t need any sailing experience, most people who sail with us don’t.
Learn new skills
Our voyages are inherently safe; however, the unpredictable nature of sail training presents real and honest physical, mental and emotional challenges. Through a mixture of on and off shore work, the voyages help you recognise the benefits of change and all participants go home with new skills and strengths.
Personal development
Sail training provides a structured environment with clear boundaries and a common purpose which is the successful completion of the voyage. Each crew member plays an active part in sailing the boat including steering, handling sails, keeping a look-out, helping to navigate, cleaning, cooking and washing up. The sailors learn to:
- Build self-confidence
- Develop problem solving and leadership skills
- Experience the need for team work
- Develop social and life skills
- Gain an awareness of our environment
- Experience healthy living
- Develop a sense of community
- Make new friends
Strict criteria for boats
The Charity uses sailing organisations who are members of ASTO (Association of Sail Training Organisations). To become a member, organisations need to prove that they comply with the strict criteria, and will be inspected by ASTO.
Where boats sail
The boats sail around the UK, across to the continent and further afield and include Adventures Offshore, Cirdan Sailing Trust, Excelsior Trust, Pioneer Trust and Sea-Change Trust.
Voyages vary in length from one day to four weeks and generally take place between March and October.
