Here’s a wonderful thank you from a new group to receive funding from us this year:
Dear Team at The Norfolk Boat,
I am writing to you express our sincere appreciation for the grant from the Voyage of Discovery Fund.
The sailing trip was an incredible opportunity and had a profound impact on all the young people that sailed on the Faramir. The trip allowed our young people to build self-esteem, resilience and was of a huge confidence boost to all onboard.
The constraints onboard were able to educate our young people and allow them insight into how you cope when the surroundings you are familiar with, are simply not there.
The young people were able to see how life can be in a very different setting entirely, the young people were able to tap into skills that they never knew they had, balancing the physical challenges with the immense freedom and connection to nature.
Our trip was affected by local storms which resulted in sailing only 5 hours out of the 5 days, this was a disappointment to the young people, yet was overcome by resilient crew and staff sourcing other activities. The trip to the Museum and the beach day with a visit to the local Fayre was of much appreciation to every young person onboard. In fact, these days were of much joy and happiness.
The young people had the most amazing time, and are eager to do this again in the future. The structure of the day with cleaning duties and cooking schedules for different groups, allowed all the young people to feel as though they were an integral part of the crew. This has had a huge impact on the young people, who are still reminiscing about the trip.
The sailing was enjoyed by all the young people, who knew the importance of working as a team and worked together to hoist the sails and steering the boat. They were able to support each other and were lucky enough to see Dolphins, who accompanied us on our return voyage. The dolphin experience was truly magical and will stay with the young people forever. The sense of reconnecting with the wild animal, repairing damage done by todays digital environment.
The sanctity of the Faramir, was immeasurable for the young people and will be firmly etched into every young person’s memory for the rest of their lives.
