Resilience

MBE, FRGS, CF
A word much bandied about but what really does it consist of and how important is it, particularly to our young people stepping up to the plate right now?

We are extremely lucky here at The Norfolk Boat to have some incredibly committed directors (trustees), from a variety of backgrounds joined by a common belief that young people can transform their lives through the challenges and opportunities of sail training.
Mike Blakey, MBE, FRGS, CF, is one of our directors that feels passionately about this:
“We need to make sure that young people have every opportunity to explore their world and their potential.”
And he should know, Mike is a former overseas expeditions adviser for the RAF Cadets and currently a member of the National Adventure Training Support Team. He was a guest speaker at the recent Royal Geographical Society Explore Conference and is the co-author of the new International Standard (ISO31031) for school and youth visits.

The article below, published by the South African Adventure Association and the Ulysses Trust, is well worth a few minutes of your time. In it, Mike sums up the power of resilience and reflects on how adventures for a whole host of young people have changed their lives for the better.
