Fund raising
ideas
There are many ways to get
the money together for your sailing trip. Here are just a
few ideas that have been tried and tested by many crew members over
the years.
- Car boot sales
- go and raid your parents, grandparents, friends,
aunts and uncles attics and sheds and sell off all that unwanted
junk.
- Raffles
- ask local businesses to donate prizes.
Make sure you explain clearly and politely what the prizes are
for and what returns will they get.
- Quizes
- hold a pub quiz, club quiz, school quiz.
- Do a sponsored
event - be imaginative! Try being
sponsored to spend a night in a jail cell, a day without talking,
a sponsored window clean.
- Run a car wash
- Sell quiz sheets
for £1 and offer a £10 prize for the person with
the most correct. Put a date to be completed and judged
by.
- Dog walking services

- Do a paper round
- Get a Saturday job
- Waitressing
- Ask for money for birthday
and Christmas instead of presents

How to structure your letter
- Introduce yourself
- Say what you want to do
and outline the costs
- Say how you are going about
raising money
- Say what you will do for
them in return for their help
- Thank them
Sponsors like to receive something
in return usually a diary of the trip, a talk or photos. Always
write and thank them no matter how small their donation as soon
as your receive it.
